The best element of a protagonist is, although they’re designed for you to root for them, they don’t necessarily have to be heroic, muscle-bound or even particularly moral. Think about it: If you don’t give a damn about the person at the center of your story, why should anyone else? If your protagonist is weak, people will stop reading instantly.
